Green Bay Fishing Report For Small Mouth And Walleye

Well the weekend has come to a close and it sure was a beautiful one up here in Door County! I spent a lot of hours out on Green Bay but unlike my normal week of fun fishing and walleye charters i pre fished for a Bass tournament. The Sturgeon Bay Open was an awesome event and a new adventure for me. During Pre fishing we searched a few areas in Sand Bay, Rileys Bay and Little Sturgeon Bay. The Smallmouth were holding in 6-9 feet of water in almost every spot we checked. Water temp was an important factor we found anywhere from 49 up to 55 until Friday came then we seen 60's. We had one pattern that was working for us all weekend. That was Throwing Paddle Tail plastics on light jigs (1/16-1/8 ounce) and just slow cranking they in keeping them just off the bottom. Mid morning we would find those fish moving up deeper cuts that ran to shorelines and spreading out on spawning flats looking for beds or partners. We put together a 22# bag day one looking to move up day 2 but that was not the case. We only brought in 14.8 # day 2. Although i did manage a Monster BASS !!! 7# 12 ounces and that landed me with biggest fish of the tournament ! All in all what a fun event for sure.

Sunday morning cane around and after a little Morel mushroom hunting i jumped in the boat with a friend from work to go do a little walleye exploration. We started out north of sturgeon bay to see what was happening on some of my favorite early summer spots but the wind picked up as we got there and i watched my water temp go from 56 to 51 in a little under 30 min. We had one good one on for a quick second on a 3/8 ounce jig with a goby colored paddle tail. Moved around a bit to try and find an active pod but to no avail.

So i decided to go look for warmer waters and we headed back south to the Larsons Reef area . found what i was looking for 56 Deg temps again but that to was starting to drop as that 15mph south east wind was blowing our warm water off shore. Our Garmin Live Scope was showing quite a few fish stacking up along a sharp rock ledge and a few casts in and i had the funny Bass smell out of the boat. We picked away at those fish for a little bit before we decided the wind was making it miserable so we picked rods and ran up to make a couple troll passes before calling it a night. Bandit B-shad in Red Rum pattern back 45 over 15 feet of water was the Producer as we picked a couple more fish up and headed in for dinner. All in all it was w wonderful weekend on Green Bay and the weather up here in door county was fantastic all weekend!

I have several Walleye Charters coming up this weekend so ill have another Report or two yet this week.
